What happens when designers and scientists join forces? Easy. Campaigns that the planet actually needs.
As part of Melbourne Design Week 2025’s theme, ‘Design the World You Want,’ Colabs and Your Creative are hosting a workshop that bridges the gap between science and communication design.
The challenge we’re addressing
It all comes down to translations. Science is its own language, one that remains trapped in academic papers and tech jargon. The issue is when it flows over to regular communication channels; leading to miscommunication or disinterest. There’s a distinct lack of connection with the intended audience.
Meanwhile, creatives with storytelling abilities, aren’t often in the same circles. They’ve got the juice, they just don’t have access to the communities that could directly benefit from this expertise.
Working with CoLabs, we quickly realised how easy it was to fix this (and also, just how fun it is). Which is what brings us to…our workshop.
We’re bringing together designers, strategists, and scientists for a day of ‘design doing’. Prepare yourself for a hands-on approach that moves beyond theory into practical application.
You’ll form teams, engage in design mapping and processes, develop messaging frameworks, and create concepts to bring science into the spotlight. It’s all about simplifying the complex, and communicating to either side that it’s not too difficult when you break every step down, together.
This workshop welcomes participants of all backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences. Particularly, those who share our vision of using design as a catalyst for scientific communication. Join us for this collaborative session where science becomes the hero, and design becomes the storyteller it deserves.
