Rothelowman are an award-winning architecture firm at the forefront of evolving Australian cities. They are dedicated to improving people’s lives by designing a better built environment. In 2017, Your Creative were tasked with carrying out a complete overhaul of the firm’s digital brand and implementing the new brand identity across all digital touchpoints.

In 2017, Your Creative were tasked with carrying out a complete overhaul of the firm’s digital brand and implementing the new brand identity across all digital touchpoints.

    Data: The foundations of intelligent design

    The redesign included an exhaustive process of collating and analysing digital data to highlight trends in user interaction and user demographics. Further data was obtained via focus groups, audience questionnaires, heatmap analysis, and agency-client discovery sessions. All of the data obtained allowed us to asses the entire digital footprint of the Rothelowman brand.

    The design challenge was to then find a way to showcase the exquisite thought and detail of Rothelowman’s work, while communicating the firm’s design philosophy and personality.

    Leading technology, bespoke imagery and dynamic content

    Rothelowman’s portfolio displays a unique depth of thought and a remarkable breadth of skill. We wanted the digital rebrand to reflect this, and to showcase the design-centric and process-led approach that defines what they do.

    The new website celebrates the process of the architect displaying Rothelowman’s output in its most potent and compelling form. Users are greeted by bold statements, engaging photography and thought leadership pieces.

    By employing UX design & intuitive tagging, user interaction has been significantly improved, with relevant content and case studies targeting the right users, at the time.

    Stylish, sophisticated search functionality

    A sophisticated search function was designed to complement the content and navigational structure. Users can search the website using filters categorically, which gives the search function added practicality, as well as making it highly intuitive and extremely accurate.

    Processes and pathways

    Celebrating the process of the architect is about displaying the thinking behind the architecture – not just the outcome. As with all good design, what makes it good is how easily it functions, and how little consideration it requires from the user. The navigational function invites users to scroll through individual projects while then beckoning them to continue on their journey of discovery. The architecture, the inspiration, and the process, are at all times presented front and centre for the user.

    Moving portraits of people and personalities

    For the people section, Rothelowman’s architects were filmed drawing an architectural form which represented their personality. The results are wonderfully engaging, moving portraits of the minds behind the designs. So, the website, as well as showing the depth of projects and ideas – also serves to show the depth of the people behind the company’s creations.

    Sharing stories through context & content specificity

    The individual context of a project is what makes it unique. Architecture is equal parts art and science, and the new website illustrates this by affording the user a greater understanding of how buildings come to be.

    A tailor-made mobile experience

    For mobile, we implemented a completely new design, offering an experience that goes beyond mobile responsivity. The bespoke build pushes the boundaries of mobile experience, incorporating elements of UX/UI app design. Every micro-interaction was considered in great detail, rewarding the user for every move they make.
